Milford Sound

Milford Sound is a 4.5 hour drive from Queenstown. Te Anau is the halfway point in travelling time. The Milford Road is a stunning alpine drive with highlights being The Mirror Lakes,The Homer Tunnel, The Chasm with various other stops and short walks available along the way.

Accommodation at Milford Sound is limited with two main options – The Milford Lodge and Real Journeys Overnight Cruises (Sep – May only).

A scenic cruise at Milford Sound is highly recommended when you arrive. If you are driving into Milford, we recommend you should schedule an earlier trip as all the bus tours to Milford Sound use the departures around 1 – 1.30pm.

The weather in Milford Sound is very unpredictable but whatever prevails, it makes for spectacular viewing – especially if the waterfalls are in action!

An excellent way to fill in a day is to travel to Wanaka, on the way explore:

• The world famous Puzzling World

At Wanaka take in the beauty of the lake views and then return to Queenstown via the Cardrona Valley with its Historic Hotel and the Crown Range – The highest highway in NZ – from which you will see spectacular views of the Wakatipu Valley from the Crown Terrace.
During the winter Wanaka has easy access to the Cardrona and Treble Cone Ski Fields
Otago Rail Trail
The Rail Trail starts at Clyde near Alexandra and traverses 150kms of stunning tussock covered mountainous country with many gorges finishing at Middlemarch.
We can offer a one way hire to Alexandra to connect with the start of the trail. We have Bike Racks available for selected vehicles
